Omar J. Harb Co-Chairs “Fidelity – A Whole New World: The Impact of Technology and Cybercrime on Fidelity Policies” for the American Bar Association’s Fidelity & Surety Law Committee’s 2020 Mid-Winter Conference

Omar J. Harb, a Partner of the Lipson Neilson law firm, along with James Knox of Zurich North America, have been selected to co-chair the program, “Fidelity – A Whole New World: The Impact of Technology and Cybercrime on Fidelity Policies,” for the American Bar Association’s Fidelity & Surety Law Committee’s 2020 Mid-Winter Conference; to be held January 29-31, 2020 in New York, NY.

Stacked with expert speakers from across the country, conference attendees will hear discussions of extremely relevant topics in Fidelity, Surety, and Construction Law. The program Mr. Harb and Mr. Knox are co-chairing will explore how the Fidelity world has adapted to new technologies and threats.

  • Presenters, panelists, and a cyber insurance team will review the latest developments in computer fraud, social engineering, and cyber-attacks. They will discuss how fidelity, crime, and cyber insurers respond to these challenges and how courts have decided various coverage issues.
  • Experts will discuss ways to analyze risks once seen as exotic, but which are now all too frequent, including ransomware and cryptocurrency, both to banks and commercial insureds. The emergence of fraudulent impersonation coverage will be featured as well.
  • This program will review the many ways in which internet technology and searching have affected the handling of fidelity claims – from investigation to discovery to salvage.
  • Panels will review the disconnect between what customers believe is covered and what insurers intend to cover, and where losses may fall as between fidelity and cyber insurers.

Mr. Harb has extensive experience in handling contract and commercial surety matters, including probate and notary bond claims and litigation. His law practice includes general construction litigation, as well as salvage, subrogation, and indemnity issues on behalf of sureties, and fidelity bond matters. He is AV-Preeminent Rated by Martindale-Hubbell and in 2019 he was designated a Michigan Super Lawyer for the sixth consecutive year.
